Peter  Gabriel   –   “Shaking  The  Tree”  from  the  1993  Secret  World  Tour

Que significa Shaking  The  Tree

‘Shaking the trees’ means taking action that makes something happen

“Sacudir los árboles” significa emprender una acción para que algo suceda.

The song that originally inspired this site, Shaking The Tree (view lyrics), is about woman’s rights in Africa, and was co-written with Senegalese singer, songwriter Youssou N’Dour. (as a side note, that is the very beautiful, extremely talented, voice of Paula Cole singing backing vocals and harmony in this video)

Lyrics

Moku la le, moku la lai
Moku la le, moku la lai
Moku la le, moku la lai
Moku la le, moku la lai

{Refrain}
Souma yergon, sou nou yergon, we are shaking the tree
Souma yergon, sou nou yergon, we are shaking the tree

Waiting your time, dreaming of a better life
Waiting your time, you’re more than just a wife
Don’t have to do what your mother has done, she has done
This is your life, this new life has begun
It’s your day, Woman’s day
It’s your day, Woman’s day

Turning the tide, you are on the incoming wave
Turning the tide, no you are nobody’s slave
Find the Sisters and Brothers
Who can hear all the truth in what you say
They can support you when you’re on your way
It’s your day, Woman’s day
It’s your day, Woman’s day

{Refrain}

Changing your ways, changing those surrounding you
Changing your ways, more than any man can do
Open your heart, show him the anger and pain so you heal
Maybe he’s looking for his womanly side, let him feel

You have to be so strong
And you do nothing wrong
Nothing wrong at all
We’re gonna to break it down
We have to shake it down
Shake it all around

{Refrain, ad lib to fade}

 Peter Gabriel & Youssou Ndour – Shakin’ The Tree

The song that originally inspired this site, Shaking The Tree (view lyrics), is about woman’s rights in Africa, and was co-written with Senegalese singer, songwriter Youssou N’Dour. (as a side note, that is the very beautiful, extremely talented, voice of Paula Cole singing backing vocals and harmony in this video)

Although this site is not about woman’s rights per say, I believe there is meaning behind everything, including why this song in particular, was the inspiration for what this site is becoming.

So what does ‘Shaking The Tree dot ca’ stand for? I am not sure I have figured that out myself, so for now, it is simply a blog about life. This one-time shot at life, and all of the beautiful souls (both man and creature), that share our lifes path with us.

In Closing and with keeping with the ‘woman’s rights’ theme, I thought I would also include reference to aproject co-founded by Peter Gabriel’s daughter, Anna Gabriel, entitled The Voice Project, which uses  the power of music to cure a very real, and a very serious problem. Here is a link to the Vimeo page as well.
